BRIEF SUMMARY

To highlight issues regarding the prescribing, reconstitution and preparation of combination antibiotics (eg. Co-amoxiclav, Co-trimoxazole, Piperacillin + Tazobactam & Ampicillin + Sulbactam) & also syrup preparations in pediatric setting.


27th December 2014 - 2nd January 2015: UMMC's Flood Relief Mission Phase 1 & Phase 2

There was a major scale flood hit South East Asia region, including southern Thailand and Malaysia with regards to the monsoon changes.
Since 15th December 2014, more than 200,000 people were affected and evacuated. The death toll was 21 people.

Hence UMMC organized a Flood Relief Mission, joint venture with Faculty of Medicine, UiTM.

State covered: Kelantan

Phase 1: 50 volunteers (deployed on 27th December 2014)
Phase 2: 43 volunteers (deployed on 30th December 2014)
The volunteers were healthcare professionals consisting of doctors, pharmacists, nurses and attendants.

The volunteers were divided into 18 subgroups and were deployed to the different temporary relief centres.
There was also one mobile team which consists of one team leader, one pharmacist and three medical officers.

Objectives:
  • Logistics and distribution of medications, medical supplies (and some equipments) to the areas affected (and depleted of medications).
  • Liaison officer of the team for medication supply arrangements with other relevant parties. e.g: MOH, JKN Kelantan, NGOs.
  • Providing concise drug information to the prescribers. e.g: paediatric dosing, empirical treatments, topical preparations, prophylaxis for cholera, drug dilution and more.
  • First aid for the rest of the team members in case of emergency. e.g: if team members experienced AGE (acute gastroenteritis) and more.
