Model of Good Care Workshop: Manufacturing Pharmacy Services

Saturday, 04th November 2017; 8.30am to 3.30pm:

The Manufacturing Pharmacy Services Team held its Model of Good Care Workshop at the Auditorium, 13th Floor Menara Selatan.
   

Attendees mainly consisted of Pharmacy Assistants, Provisionally Registered Pharmacists and PharmacistsThe main purpose of this workshop is to give exposure to staff who have yet or are unable to take part in the various manufacturing services available.
    

The topics highlighted in this workshop are:
  1. Overview of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing services
  2. Supply of Parenteral Nutrition and sterile reconstituted products
  3. Non-sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing activities
  4. Introduction to the Chemotherapy Screening service
  5. Procedures to follow in emergency situations related to Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
  6. Cytotoxic spill management
  7. Guidelines on the stability of sterile medications (including cytotoxic agents)
  8. Proper hand washing procedure
The participants should now have a clearer picture of what goes on in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing section.

The 9th National Q.A. Convention 2017

26th October 2017:

UMMC Pharmacy participated in the 9th National Quality Assurance Convention at the Sungai Siput Convention Centre, Perak.

Though we did not get any placing, we were praised by the judges for giving very clear and interesting oral presentation.

Heartiest congratulations to the Outpatient Pharmacy Team on their success and our Pharmacy Assistant, Ms. Gursharan Sandhuin particular for doing a great job in presenting the Quality Improvement efforts done.

Briefing on New Standard Outpatient Medication Charges

Tuesday, 17th October 2017 12.00pm:

A briefing on the new medication charges taking effect from 01st November 2017 onwards was held at the Pharmacy Conference Room.
   

Encik Mohamed Noor Ramli, Senior Store Pharmacist, gave a brief introduction before Encik Ricky Law, Senior Outpatient Pharmacist, conducted the briefing.

The briefing was held in 2 sessions: 12.00pm-1.00pm and 1.00pm-2.00pm, to enable a majority of Pharmacy staff to attend during their lunch break.

Micromedex Refresher Training

Tuesday, 10th October 2017 10.30am:
UMMC Pharmacy held a refresher course on how to fully utilize Micromedex, currently UMMC's sole subscribed on-line medication reference after the discontinuation of UpToDate by UM Library.

 
The briefing was given by Mr. Ivan Chong, Clinical Customer Solution Manager from Truven Health, the service provider for Micromedex.

It was an enlightening session that would help us search and provide information efficiently when required.

Saturday, 30th September 2017; 8.30am to 3.30pm :

The Outpatient Pharmacy Services Team held its Model of Good Care Workshop at Dewan Sekapur Sirih, 1st Floor Bangunan Kecemasan.
   

Attendees mainly consisted of Pharmacy Assistants, Provisionally Registered Pharmacists and Pharmacists.
   

The topics highlighted in this workshop are:
  1. Prevention of medication errors in an outpatient dispensary setting
  2. Overview of diabetes medications
  3. Introduction to the INR clinic and warfarin MTAC
  4. Supply of oral immuno-suppressing agents
  5. Overview of endocrine hormones related medications
  6. Medications that are safe for use in pregnant, breastfeeding and G-6-P deficient patients
  7. Supply of anti-retroviral medications
  8. Role of erythropoietin in the management of renal anemia
The participants had a great time and especially enjoyed the fun learning activities between lectures.

After almost 7 years in operation, UMMC Pharmacy and Encik Shamsul, representative from PosLaju, meet to discuss and clarify the terms of PharmCARE By-Post services.
   

Hopefully, this discussion will further improve Pharmacy's services to patients subscribing to our PharmCARE service.

World Pharmacists Day 2017 Celebration at UMMC

Tuesday, 19th September 2017, 08.30am:

World Pharmacists Day is celebrated annually on 25th September. The theme for this year is "From Research to Healthcare: Your Pharmacist Is At your Service".

UMMC Pharmacy Department Family Dinner 2017

Saturday, 19th August 2017 6.00pm to 10.00pm:

UMMC Pharmacy Department held its Family Dinner at Restoran Rebung Chef Ismail, Taman Botani Perdana, Kuala Lumpur with the theme "Ala Kampung".

Saturday, 12th August 2017; 8.30am to 3.30pm:

The Inpatient Pharmacy Services Team held its Model of Good Care Workshop at the Auditorium, 13th Floor Menara Selatan.
   

Attendees mainly consisted of Pharmacy Assistants and Provisionally Registered Pharmacists. There were several Diploma of Pharmacy Students as well as Pharmacists from other sections in attendance as well.
   

The topics highlighted in this workshop are:
  1. Medication errors reports and analysis
  2. Paediatric dose calculations end extemporaneous paediatric syrup preparations
  3. LASA items and High Alert Medications
  4. Management of antibiotics supply
  5. Criteria for supply of urgent medication orders
  6. Safe handling of hazardous chemicals
  7. Renal dose adjustments and interpretation of relevant laboratory results
  8. Management of Dangerous Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
   

All participants were required to do a pre-workshop and post-workshop test to gauge the effectiveness of the workshop.

Clarifying Special Medication Supply Flow to Federal Pensioners

21st July 2017, 11.30am to 1.00pm:

A "town-hall" gathering for UMMC staff was held at Dewan Sekapur Sirih, 1st Floor Emergency Building to clarify the current flow for supply of Special Formulary and PharmUMMC items to Federal Pensioners and their dependants, now that E-MASS has been discontinued.

The brief was given by UMMC Chief Pharmacist, Puan Hajjah Che Zuraini Sulaiman, followed by an in-depth summary by UMMC Deputy Director (Professional), Associate Prof. Azura Mansor.

The audience were made to understand the difference between the different categories of Government Servants and Pensioners and how the flow differs for each.

In general, doctors were advised to be more restrained in their choice of treatment unless there is no better than to prescribe a Special Formulary or PharmUMMC item.
