World Pharmacists Day 2018

25 - 27 September 2018:

Our Pharmacy Department of University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) celebrated World Pharmacists’ Day at the Concourse, UMMC Main Building, with the theme "Pharmacists: Your Medicines Experts”. Among the activities held was a poster exhibition, interactive games and virtual reality tour of UMMC Pharmacy Department. There were also blood pressure and blood glucose screening, health counseling by Pharmacists, and eye screening by Alcon provided free for the public. Disposal of Unused Medicines Programme (DUMP) UM and Pharnaceutical Services Department from the Ministry of Health Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya were also present to provide medication education to the public.

Interview for Business FM's Health & Living Show

Wednesday, 24th January 2018 3.00pm:

Our Chief Pharmacist, Puan Che Zuraini binti Sulaiman, was invited along with Prof. Debra Sim from the Department of Pharmacology, University of Malaya, to an interview session for Business FM's Health & Living segment.

The interview was recorded for air play on a later date at BFM's studio at Wisma BU8, Bandar Utama.

The topic of discussion was the possibility of abuse or over medicating, especially when the public turn to self medication.

Our Chief Pharmacist attended this round table discussion initiated by Malaysian Ministry of Health on facilitating and enabling supply of cost-friendly Hepatitis C medication in Malaysia.

Friday, 19th January 2018:

From time to time, UMMC is graced with the opportunity to treat Very Important Personages (VIPs) and Pharmacy is one of the main services often engaged.

A discussion was held between Pharmacy Department and the Department of Corporate Relations regarding this matter to facilitate medication supply while minimising disruption to daily operations in Pharmacy.

The group has come up with a workflow that will simplify the issues for all related parties. The proposal shall be presented to UMMC Management for endorsement in the very near future.

Internal Audit 2018

Tuesday, 16th-Wednesday, 17th January 2018:

It was once again time for this hospital-wide exercise in preparation for the coming SIRIM Audit in April 2018.
Pharmacy welcomed the internal auditors on Tuesday morning with a brief overview of the department.

The auditors later paid a visit to Inpatient Pharmacy, the Sterile Manufacturing Complex, Main Pharmacy Store, Peadiatrics Pharmacy and Outpatient Pharmacy.

At the end of the audit, Pharmacy received several suggestions on Opportunities For Improvement (OFI) without any findings of Non-Compliance (NC).

Ensuring Continuity of Medication Supply

Wednesday, 10th January 2018 afternoon:

Pharmacy starts off the year with a serious discussion on how to minimize the disruptions in medication supply encountered throughout the previous year.

The Head of Purchasing Department and her officers were invited to discuss various matters pertaining the chain of order and supply of medications.

Among the issues brought up is the fluctuating price of Approved Products Purchase List (APPL) medications and how to ensure supply should purchase tenders unexpectedly get rejected at a higher level.

Several courses of action were agreed upon and shall be executed as required.
