Model of Good Care Workshop: Outpatient Pharmacy

Outpatient Pharmacy has organised Model of Good Care for Dispensing Workshop last Saturday on 24th August, from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm at Sekapur Sirih Hall, Trauma and Emergency Complex, UMMC. This year MOGC workshop featured the first join collaboration between Pharmacy Department, UMMC and Malaysia Federation of the Deaf (MFD) in an effort towards achieving better and more excellent outpatient services to deaf patients and clients through provision of the sign language basic to Pharmacy Department staffs.

The first part of the 8-hour workshop focused on the introduction of sign language by Mr. Mohamad Sazali Shaari as he brought the participants into the brief history of the sign language, issues, and related activities organised by MFD. Then, the participants were exposed and trained with simple practices of sign language related to pharmacy settings by Miss Nor Saadah Zulkifli. In this slot, participants got to learn on few simple yet highly useful signs such as prescription, pharmacy, common ailments (cold, fever, pain, etc.) and even chronic illnesses (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, asthma, etc.). Both of these two speakers had been succesfully assisted by an intepreter, Miss Wan Zuraidah Abu. Later, the workshop proceeded with various topics related to outpatient pharmacy services delivered by OP pharmacists such as chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), community mental health visit by Psychological Medicine Pharmacy team, heart failure and polypharmacy in geriatric population.
