Building on last year’s strategic direction, this year's transformation briefing highlighted key initiatives to enhance efficiency and service quality within the pharmacy department. It covered the confirmed Outpatient Pharmacy and PharmUMMC relocation and automation to KPPL, the inpatient automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) going live in February this year, and future upgrades in the Sterile Complex including equipment, staff training, and planned renovations. Additionally, major renovation projects were discussed. Overall, these initiatives aim to streamline workflows, improve medication safety, and elevate the quality of pharmaceutical care delivered to patients.

During Majlis Aspirasi Pengarah PPUM 2026, the Pharmacy Department set up an educational booth at the Plaza to engage patients, visitors, and staff. The booth provided medication counselling, promoted the safe and appropriate use of medicines, and increased awareness of medication safety through interactive educational materials and one-to-one discussions with pharmacists.

In conjunction with World's Kidney Day 2026, the Pharmacy Department set up an educational booth to raise public awareness of medication use in patients with kidney disease. Pharmacists engaged patients, caregivers, visitors, and healthcare professionals through interactive discussions on the safe use of prescribed medicines, over-the-counter products, and dietary and herbal supplements. Participants were educated on the potential risks of certain supplements in individuals with impaired kidney function and encouraged to consult healthcare professionals before using them.

The gathering brought together Jabatan Farmasi staff in the spirit of goodwill, unity, and cultural appreciation. The event provided an opportunity for staff to strengthen relationships and enjoy fellowship while embracing the multicultural values shared within the department. Staff were encouraged to wear traditional festive attire or other respectful and modest cultural clothing to the gathering.

As part of the HOPE PPUM volunteer outreach programme at Royal Belum, Gerik, Perak, the Pharmacy Department contributed to community healthcare initiatives by providing medication-related advice, health education, and pharmaceutical support. Siti Nur-Hussaini emerged as the winner of the Kuiz Imunisasi 2026 during the Hari Imunisasi 2026 Peringkat Jabatan Kesihatan Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur & Putrajaya.
The Pharmacy Department participated in the Universiti Malaya Staff Sports Carnival 2026, joining colleagues from across the university in a day of sporting activities. The event promoted teamwork, camaraderie, and a healthy lifestyle while strengthening interdepartmental relationships among university staff.

The team contributed to community health promotion by providing health education, raising awareness of healthy lifestyle practices, and engaging with members of the public through educational activities. The Pharmacy Department successfully conducted a sharing session titled “Peranan Pembantu Perawatan Kesihatan dalam Pengendalian Ubat” in conjunction with the Bengkel Pembantu Perawatan Kesihatan with the theme “PPK Cemerlang, Kerjaya Gemilang”.
The session aimed to enhance Healthcare Assistants’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities in medication handling, strengthen compliance with established procedures, and ensure a smooth medication collection process from the pharmacy as well as medication supply to patients.

The Launching Ceremony of the Automated Medication Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) was successfully held 🎉
UMMC has made history as the first university teaching hospital in Malaysia to implement ADC, marking a significant milestone in the Pharmacy Department’s journey towards digital transformation and safer patient care.
ADC is an automated medication supply system that enhances efficiency, improves workflow, and supports safer and more accurate medication dispensing.
This achievement reflects the strong commitment and teamwork of all departments involved, including the Pharmacy Department, Hospital Infrastructure Centre, Digital Technology Department, and Nursing Department.

Throughout the three-day APHM International Healthcare Conference & Exhibition 2026, held from 28 to 30 July 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), three groups representing various taskforces from the Pharmacy Department participated in a visit to the exhibition.
The visit provided an opportunity for participants to explore the latest developments in healthcare technology and innovation, while also fostering networking and strengthening collaborative relationships with participating industry partners.

UMMC had the pleasure of welcoming a benchmarking visit from the Hospital Pengajar Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (HPUNIMAS) delegation.
The visit aimed to provide exposure and knowledge sharing on the implementation and utilisation of the Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC), as well as to observe the execution of the room signage system at selected locations within UMMC as a reference for HPUNIMAS.
The session provided an opportunity for meaningful discussions, exchange of experiences, and sharing of best practices in enhancing operational efficiency and healthcare service delivery.
