Ipratropium Nebuliser to be Prescribed as Actual Dose

13th January 2017 (Circular NO. SP PPUM: 19/2017):

UMMC currently stocks Ipratropium 500 mcg/2ml Nebuliser Solution only since the discontinuation of keeping Ipratropium 250 mcg/2ml Nebuliser Solution was announced on 7th December 2016.

With this change, the current practice of prescribing combined nebulised medication as in example below

A:V:N 2:2:2

may lead to medication error, especially where children are involved.

To prevent any untoward incidents, doctors are advised to prescribe the actual dose of Ipratropium required as shown in example below

A:V:N 250mcg:2mL:2mL
